Sustainability
Atos Worldline’s environmental approach is based on a pragmatic attitude. Atos Worldline uses its know-how to serve more sustainable growth while undertaking significant efforts to reduce its global environmental footprint. The initiative includes both improving its production methods and deploying responsible practices at the local level across three key areas:
• Social – Valuing diversity
• Economic - Accompanying clients in their green IT and sustainable development projects
• Environment - An active commitment to preserving the environment
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) account for nearly 2% of global CO2 emissions— as much as the aviation industry according to Gartner. Making the situation all the more urgent, greenhouse gas emissions from information systems are expected to increase by 50% by 2020 if data centers continue to grow at their current pace.
ICT can clearly contribute to reducing the carbon footprint generated by other sectors ICT are today an important part of the European economy and could thus impact positively on the environment and therefore help to combat climate change according to a recent report of the European Commission, which also encourages the growing use of ICT for a greener Europe. The report also states that the use of technologies should contribute to reducing up to 15% CO2 emissions in Europe by 2020.
Finally, Atos Worldline fully supports the sustainability mission of Atos: Creating a sustainable firm of the future through the pursuit of financial profitability with a conscious environmental and social impact.
